Art of Uncorking Champagne with a Sword

You’ve seen it and you want to learn the art of sabrage. First, it is not as difficult as you think. But, it is not as easy as it sounds either. Therefore, expect that there are times that you won’t break the lip of the bottle perfectly. Just like the saying, practice makes perfect.

Pieces Of Stuff To prepare

You should know by now that you only have to use proper tools in order to execute the art. Thus, this means that you should only use champagne saber and not your ordinary kitchen knife. Other pieces of stuff that must be included as you perform the are one bottle of champagne, one slim glass of flute, small towel, and a bucket full of ice. Keep in mind that a professional sabreur can do it in just one quick flip.

The Bottle

Make sure that the bottle is cold enough when slicing its lip. Remember, cold enough but not icy cold. The trick is not the force when you slid the blade but rather than chemical inside that actually do all the working. Make sure to keep the neck of the bottle clean by removing the foils. Make sure to wipe the bottle using a clean small towel.

The Cork

Now, remove the wire of the cork. Make sure to put your thumb over the cork to support it just in case. Be careful when doing so and you should always be aware not to shake the bottle too much otherwise the chemicals inside will react spoiling your performance.

The Seam

The seam is the weakest spot of the bottle. You can find it as you look closer to the bottle. This is where you are going to slide the blade from the neck to the bottle.

The Stance

There is no such thing as a perfect stance. In fact, you can perform sabrage or champagne sabering while you are sitting. Yet of course, if you want to impress everyone, a nice and confident posture can add a little drama to it. Hold the bottle 45 degrees in angle and make sure that you will point the bottle somewhere safe from the crowd.

The Saber Champagne

Now for the sword, as mentioned before, it is important to use only a champagne sword or saber when sabering champagne. You can add another drama presenting the sword to the crowd. The sword is safe and the blade is actually blunt.  The blade is intended for cutting the tip of the bottle and not for thrusting.

The Force

When you slide the sword to the tip, keep in mind that you don’t have to hit it like the bottle is your enemy. Not reckless and not too careful either. Make sure that you have a good grip on the bottle and the sword. As soon as you slide the blade, you will see that the cord together with the tip of the bottle soars.  Let the bubbles flow from the neck to rinse away small glass particles of the bottle.

The Drink

Get the champagne flute and put some champagne on it nice and easy. As you look to the crowd, smile and raise your glass up.
